Do Not Wear Contact Lens when taking a Plane
Many people nowadays choose airplanes as the means of transportation when going out. It is absolutely much more convenient and faster compared to other vehicles. As technology is developing with bounds and leaps, these passenger planes have become much more comfortable and ideal. But experts are warning that some other factors like humidity, air pressure, changes of gravity in the plane influence a lot to people’s health. When it comes to glasses, if you are used to wear contacts, it’s best that you get yourself a pair of framed glasses during the trip.
The reason is quite simple: environment changes as people fly from the ground to the sky. When in the sky, the dry air in the compartment of the airplane will evaporate the moisture on the eyes, causing the eyes to feel quite dry. On the other hand, the contacts, under this condition, will become harden, which is easily to make the epithelial tissue of cornea fall off. What’s more, protein in tears shed from the eyeballs become dry too, thus block the air holes. All these will cause some damages to the eyeballs, leading to some symptoms like inflammation or an allergy.
Also there’s another risk that we should be aware of. Changes in atmospheric pressure from the short time of planes’ taking off and landing do pose some risks that the contact lenses will be undergoing distortion. To some contacts with poor quality, we should be more careful for they are easier to become dry and harden and may even break. If those situations occur, the eyeballs will not be sound and safe any more.
What’s worse, as it is not allowed to bring liquid substance with people themselves, passengers cannot use eye drops to moisten their eyes in time when those symptoms come up because of wearing contact lenses.
To conclude, put down your contact lenses before boarding a plane, prepare for yourself a pair of light, common framed-glasses. When your eyes feel uncomfortable, close your eyes to have a rest, and do some simple massage to the eyes. Do remember never rub your eyes at random.
